Hello everyone going to be changing the differential fluid on my 2008 ford e350 van and trying to identify what axle is it in to but the right gear oil in it and I am reading a bunch of stuff on adding additives and friction modifiers my VIN my axle code is 34. What oil do I need for this rear end and do I need any additives or just the gear oil and what axle is in the van thanks. Does anyone know of a better manual to buy for these ford vans besides the original owners manual?
google is your friend
According to google your 34 axle code is a open 9.75 axle with a 3.44 ratio
I would double check that with a flopor jack turning the rear wheels (google is NOT foolproof) (idiotproof)
If it's a limited slip (posi), you will need to put it in neutral to turn the rear wheels when jacked up and on jackstands (the driveline must turn)
Either way use GL-5 full synthetic fluid 75-90 (the expensive stuff)
They claim you can use the limited slip fluid in an open axle, and the friction modifiers have no effect on the bearings or gears (true), but I just run the regular stuff with NO additives (cheaper) on open diffs.
