I have a 2004 excursion Eddie Bauer with a 6.0 in it, we have 270,000 miles on it, and the only hiccup was an EGR cooler replacement at around 140K. Let’s just say the dealer got me pretty good.
Living in Maine, she’s been exposed to some of the most corrosive of treatments, I think that there are, and we just did a pretty significant rebuild. I don’t wanna tell you how much it was cause it’ll just make me wanna cry.
I said all of that to say this. Does anybody know a good diesel mechanic in Maine to take my beloved to?
I’ve gotten her back after all the bodywork and she looks wonderful. However, I was going over all the things I usually do and found that we have oil in the coolant. It has the original OEM oil cooler in it.
If anybody could point me to an honest mechanic, it would be very appreciated. I know this is not going to be cheap. She has not been bulletproofed yet.
The mission of this vehicle is to take Mom wherever she wants to go with studded snow tires on it during the winter time, and the occasional trailering, usually a car carrier.
Can't say I know or recommend anyone in Maine, but that's definitely the oil cooler that failed.
I've had to do a few of those contamination clean ups and it does take time. If they get it back to you in a day or so, they didn't flush the system right.
When I lived in VT I did most of the work on my truck myself until I got to a point where I could not diagnose and solve some issues. At that point after not having luck with the local diesel shop I shipped it to Powerstrokehelp in Buford, GA. Plenty of opinions and keyboard warriors online - my experience with them with was nothing but great. I drove it all the way home to VT without it skipping a beat, and then towed a 20ft trailer with it from VT to TX a year later. Word of mouth from other 6.0 people in your area is going to be your best bet. I would ask in the 6.0 Powerstroke Enthusiasts Facebook group. These things are aging out and if you cannot do the work yourself you will be constantly dumping big $$$ as it sounds like you already are with the body. Good luck.
