Adding 360 camera

Is it possible to add the 360 camera to truck that didn’t come with it? I see a few posts about it for the f150 but looks like all different components. Looking at the wiring diagram for my truck 2019 lariet, from what I can tell looks like it would take a different IPMB module for the multiple cameras. The connector looks different but seems all the wires it needs are there in the standard module aswell just need to be moved around/repinned. Then obviously adding the front camera and the 2 side
mirror cameras which look like they just use coax cable. After that seems like only other thing would be add the camera switch to the dash then do some programming. Is the third brake light camera part of the 360 system also or does it use the tailgate camera? Anyone have any info on this?

It uses the tailgate camera. And the project is supposedly pretty complex but doable

I believe there are 4 cameras though commonly 5 because the bed (CHMBL) camera ties into the same system but isn't used for the surround view. Front cam (in the front emblem), rear cam (tailgate), and side cams (part of the mirror housings). Depending on year some of the wiring may be present.

You'll need a grille that supports the front cam emblem, you should already have the tailgate cam (IIRC it's standard on everything anymore), and (2) new mirror assemblies that include the cameras (very pricey). Whatever wiring harnesses you don't have you'll need to also obtain. I don't recall if the system has its own module, I think it's part of the BCM. You will also need a new dash surround to accommodate the button, and of course the new switch assembly. And then as you noted, programming to activate everything.

Yes it can be done, it is pretty involved and takes some time.

From what I’ve been reading it looks like the tailgate/rear camera is different between the 2 systems but mounts in the exact same spot so I would also need to swap that and run coax cable- the 360 camera is a wider view range and has a coax connection while the regular rear camera is analog and just single wires in the wire harness/connector. The camera system has it own module seperate from the bcm and they are different between the 2 systems. I see a lot of the modules for the 360 system on eBay for around 100 bucks, may pick one up and start playing with it.

I would NOT run your own wire harness, buy the right one. It's going to be much simpler and easier to troubleshoot if something doesn't quite work as expected.

the cables to each camera are single coax cable. Plan on using OEM cables if part numbers can be tracked down. Looks like the cable for the front emblem is pretty inexpensive (35 bucks). the mirror/door cameras look like it would be a straight shot in through the door jamb to the IPMB behind the dash. They do also appear to be standard farka style coax connectors. The thing I am more concerned/wondering about is the actual programming to get it to recognize the new module and enable all the functions. Seems even once it’s all hooked up and activated it would need to be calibrated by the dealer with some sort of calibration pads/mats…

I'm also actively researching parts and all the wiring/connectors needed for this project. I only got to part numbers for front logo w/ camera, side mirrors w/ camera and high mount tail-light w/ camera. And my tailgate camera is also analog so, that will also need to be upgraded to coax version.
You are correct about the IPMB module. I can't figure out if it is currently installed on the truck and I will need to upgrade to a 360 compatible version? I don't know where it would be installed.
I looked at the back of the APIM and see 1 unused coax port. I'm guessing that's where the connector from IPMA would go.
The interesting thing is that there was a black/cap on the third button for the quick access buttons on the top trim of the infotainment, which is reserved for lane-assist/360 camera. But, the connector for it was just sitting there behind the trim. So, I bought the OEM button (lane assist/360 camera) on ebay and installed it with the connector in the back. I'll have to activate it from FORScan, but I'll do it when I install the cameras/IPMA.
Let me know how your search goes. Maybe we can share/collaborate our efforts and install it.
Also, I think on Ford Parts online all the parts for the 360 setup are under "Tow Vision System".

Anyone have any more info on programming changes? I see infotainment offers this add on/upgrade for the f150/ but the hardware for the f150s is little different. Also is blue required or is this seperate system? It seems like it would work without it but some point during my searching it seems I saw someone say blis is required for the 360, didn’t know if they meant you couldn’t get the truck equipped with 360 without getting the blis option or the system itself requires blis to work…

I was able to track down most of the part call-outs, including all of the factory coax jumper cables with part numbers identified. On my 2019 F-250, the IPMB module is mounted behind the dash screen, and from what I can tell there are two different versions: the non-360 unit, which uses a 12-pin connector, and the 360 version, which uses a 24-pin connector. When swapping to the 360 unit you’ll also need a different bracket to mount it back in the same location. The connectors are the same Molex family and style, but the pin configurations are different, so the plan is to depin the wires from the existing 12-pin connector and reinsert them into the new 24-pin connector where they need to go.

The dash switch connector was tricky to source since most suppliers required a 100-piece minimum order, but I was able to find it on TE Connectivity’s site and used the “Request Free Sample” option. They sent me one at no cost, and I confirmed it fits the single-button camera switch I picked up. Some people have spot for the switch with blank filler other will need to replace radio bezel with one with 3rd spot for the camera button- again mine only has 2 buttons so I’ll have to swap the bezel on mine when the time comes. The part numbers for the bezel are all over the place because of the many different trim levels, options and colors for the vehicles. eBay maybe best bet to find decent one.

From the IPMB module, there are two main coax harnesses that drop down under the center console near the airbag module connector. The yellow connector harness carries the mirror camera signals, and it splits under the console, with each side running under the seats, forward into the door-jamb connectors, and out through the door harnesses to the mirror cameras. The black connector harness carries the front and rear camera signals, running toward the driver side and through the firewall with two brown connectors into the engine bay. From there, one jumper harness runs to the front emblem camera (Some people have said this harness is already in their vehicles- it is not on mine) and another runs all the way back to the tailgate connection, where a short harness inside the tailgate connects directly to the tailgate camera. Altogether there are nine coax cables in the system, including splitters and jumper harnesses, and I’ve included superseding part numbers in case older versions are easier to find.

The part numbers for the mirrors will vary depending on vehicle options so the best approach is to find a set that matches the options you already have or are looking to add that also have the camera. The front emblem also comes in different variations, including black versus chrome finishes, and Ford lists separate part numbers for 2017–2019 versus 2020–2022 on emblem assemblies with cameras. Interestingly, the non camera emblem says it fits 2017-2022 & the bare camera itself also shows compatibility across 2017–2022 even though the emblem assemblies split is by year range. Guessing the there must be different clearances in the grilles for the cameras? Hoping when time comes I will be able to modify my current grill with a dremel to allow the camera/emblem to be installed without replacing my grill aswell. For now I’m keeping an eye on eBay to start collecting some of these pieces. Still trying to find out more about the required FORScan changes that will need to be performed. The site I used to gather most of the part numbers is here: Kennedy Ford Parts – Camera Equipment.

I had a 2022 power stroke Lariat tremor that i hit a moose with. I successfully added adaptive cruise, power running boards, 360 cams, and pro trailer backup assist. The truck is gone now but I kept a log of all my changes and had no dtcs.

I do have a video of the truck steering itself with a trailer hooked up. I used all factory parts. Swapped the frame harness, dash harness, cab harness, added coax into the doors. The cab harness and frame harness aren't really necessary, as you can add the coax you need, but mine was still under its 3 year bumper to bumper so I didn't want to chop it up. The dash harness is where you would need to get crafty as you need to add a module and the factory harness doesn't have the connectors in the dash. Keep in mind mine was sync 4 but that really shouldn't make a lot of difference as far as the cameras go. The pro trailer backup assist can be added assuming you also have a power steering control module (pscm) mounted on your driver side frame rail. If your steering wheel vibrates for the lane departure warning then you already have this.

As far as the 360 camera system goes, the front, side, and tailgate cameras all run off coax and the other end of the coax connects to the ipmb. The ipmb then sends a video signal out to your apim. There is also a camera in the chmsl but it is not a coax camera...it is just the old type used since around 2011. It is also the same camera used in the tailgate if you didn't have the 360 camera setup.

The frame harness without 360 cams has video wires in it for the base model tailgate cam. The version of the harness with 360 cams has an additional coax...this coax runs to the updated tailgate camera. The base model backup camera wires are still in this harness, but are repurposed for a trailer camera and run to the new "12-pin" trailer connector in the bumper/bed (5th wheel)

As far as programming, the isn't a lot to do to get the cameras working assuming the ipmb came out of another truck. I used as built data for a "platinum" version of my truck to program the ipmb. When you put the truck into reverse you should get video right away. The BCM needs to have the tailgate camera option turned off to avoid a LIN buss error since you are now using a different type of camera and I believe the APIM needs programming to get the soft buttons on the screen to appear for camera zoom etc.

To add the pro trailer backup assist, there is some programming in the ABS, IPC, PSCM, and TRM to be done.

As stated earlier, I kept track of all my programming changes, but i can only verify the charges work for a 2022. Hope this helps someone.

I have a 2022 F250 Lariat with only "fixed" rear(tailgate) camera. So, there is no IPMB installed in the truck. I'll have to do all the wiring from IPMB - to - APIM. I have the 12inch screen so at least the APIM is capable (IPMB will connect into the same wire terminals at the current rear-view analog camera is connecting). I have started to track down all the parts and wiring that I'll need to do for 360 upgrade. I found a "new" IPMB (mfr date 7/2021) on ebay that was on super sale and I ended up buying it. I'll have to PMI it using FORSCAN.
@Rolncole regarding as built data, do I still need to get as built data from a Platinum trim and load it in the IPMB? Did you use FORSCAN for all programming? I'm also adding PTBA. How did you find the connector (with wiring) that plugs into back of the PTBA ****? I can't find any connector part number info for the PTBA **** anywhere.

I swapped the entire dash harness so I didn't need to do any wiring since it's a little more involving on a sync 4 truck. The ipmb mounts in a different location on this truck. Used an eBay harness. All programming changes are done with forscan. All factory 360 cam harnesses come with ptba plug....as far as I am aware 360 cams and ptba were not available separately on the super duty. I could probably dig out the changes on my laptop tonight....I hung onto all that stuff for the past couple trucks I played with.

You will need to run coax from the ipmb to the tailgate for your 360 cams to function. The pins for the camera wires on the ipmb you are talking about using are used for the trailer backup camera.
