As for the "Have I ever been to the Race track"
question, Back in the early 70's, I raced at Cayuga
in Ontario, Canada. A '72 LTD with a 400 my Brother
and I built...
The last time I was at the track was October, I snuffed
a 2.3L Turbo'd Mustang, with the Rockettes Capri...
Foot pedaling it, two step to come soon. Way to go on beating a four banger.

I beat a turbo 4 banger with a 2.0L normally
aspirated 4 banger '72 Capri, granted her car
scales at 1870lbs, 2055lbs with me in it, and
has a C4, I'd post a picture, but it's not a truck,
so that's not allowed...

I would love to see a pic of the 72, can you link it? What kind of et and mph does it turn?

take the 2.3, stroke it to 2.5, and turbo it to ungodly amounts of boost

It can be done, but the limit is cost and reliability

Personally, I'd keep the build moderate (financially), and shoot it with a 150 shot of nitrous. I really is the "easy" way of doing it.

Biggest stroker I've ever seen/heard of was 2.875L (ungodly parts & re-build co$t). If you need that much displacement, you'ld be better off going engine swap route.

Been there, know it well. IIRC that 3.0 stroker kit will only fit in the old Mustang SVO long (tall?) blocks. Pretty sure it won't work for 99.999% of any who may read this.

HHMMMM. Esslingers web site appears to be down right now.

If you want to see the craziest 4banger ever, check out this website. This is a 4000 HP 4.8L inline 4! No joke. Its a totally custom built engine from the block up. It's capable of 5.5 sec. in 1/4. Throw that bad boy in your ranger and go cruise the strip.

There's a lot you can do with the 2.3 turbo engine. There's a pretty strong following on the net - check out www.turboford.org for about all the info you could ever want.

I have done the 2.3 turbo engine swap on my Mustang. I haven't had a chance yet to get to the dyno, but I should be somewhere around 250rwhp and at least 300 ft/lb of torque. Everything in my engine is ported (intakes, head, exhaust manifold) and I am running a Powerstroke intercooler.. Turbo is at 22lbs right now, but I am pretty close to the limits of the stock fuel system. Next mod is alcohol injection to further cool off the intake charge. That should allow me to run a couple more lbs of boost and a few more degrees of timing. EEC tuner is coming soon.

For pics and a list of mods on my Stang, go to www.binaryweb.com/88lx/

The merkur XR4ti was also a turbo 2.3. I believe it has forged internals, so it makes it a goond candidate for a rebuild and a big turbo. Then you will spank some cramaros
