While driving to work the other night I noticed that there was no light in the **** like the heater controls. I always thought that there was, but the more I look it just appears to be marked with white paint or somthing along that line. Could someone please turn on there lights and see if there is a light in the ****, or if only the background lights up. My dakota did and I thought this did too but i'm not sure. Please someone look and let me know if i'm going nuts or if it actually lit up at one time.
Thanks alot
Robert
I just went out and checked mine and the little white marker on mine does light up. It seems to be lighting with the window controls and locks, it was on even with the lights out. Wonder why some light and others don't??
Mine lights up as well. One of two things:
1. Bulb is burned out (possible)
2. Ford crunched the numbers on the savings of not installing a .05 bulb times the number of trucks sold (most likely)
Mine also comes on with the door panel switch lights.
I went to the dealer today and they didn't know if it's susposed to or not. They couldn't find anything in there books so they ordered one to try. My truck has the auto function and I can pull my switch out to turn the driving lights on in the parking light mode. I guess i'll find out when we try it. I'll keep you posted.
Maybe the newer models with the extra driving/fog lights are not lit?
Seems really strange. I was complaining to myself about the dimmer-roof light thingy not being back-lit, guess I'll live with it now!
My '03 F350 only has lights on the switch backing plate and they only light up when the unlit switch is turned on to either the parking lights or headlights. The switch itself only has a painted pictograph on it. Does seem strange, but I know where the switch is and can live with it. Everybody else only sees the bright, shiny outside of that fantastic piece of Ford engineering.
I wish my 2001 did light up like yours.... anyone able to pull
off the **** from the panel w/o breaking it? I tried today to
remove it (to see if there was a bulb back there, and if it was
bad or not....) , and that sucker did not wanna come off.
I learned a long time ago not to "gorilla" something that seems
stuck, 'lest I end up breaking the friggin thing into pieces.
So I stopped for now to see if anyone has had any luck removing this ****
and what gotchas there are, if any. Seems to me it should come just
straight off.... ugghhhh.....
Reading thru this thread there can only be one answer:
There must be some bozo in the KY assembly plant that puts a headlight switch bulb in every 35th vehicle that comes down the line.... yeah, that's it! :+ :-X23
can't think of any other rational explanation right now....
Put the new switch in last night and guess what NO light, but at least I got a new switch out of it. It seems that the early 01's and older light up and the late 01's or early 02's till present do not. But what would happen if someone ordered a new switch for a 2000 would it light up or is ford that cheap that they eliminated the .05 cent bulb in all new switches? I don't really care fo my dealer so I don't like talking to them but does somebody have access to find out if an older switch and a newer switch have the same part #?
I made the same complaint about my 0ct 99 built 2000 MY. Dealer said that my switch had a place for bulbs but Ford was eliminating the bulbs due to the switch overheating. I just laughed,......I'm tired of the shortcuts and backyard fixes for real problems. I should just be happy my $45,000 headlamps actually light up. LOL
