Eaton 1310 is the 2 speed axle Ford used in the F/M 6 trucks. You're going to have to share more pics of that beautiful machine. By the hood and grille trim it should be a 52. Very cool truck. Congratulations on your find. What parts are you thinking you need?
Mercury trucks were exactly the same as Fords, just with Mercury badging. All the mechanicals will interchange. It might be easier to say Ford when ordering parts so no one is confused. You might end up with Merc sedan parts.
I can’t find awhole lot of info on the eaton axle, form a couple other post on the forums I almost looks like a Timken 2 speed. Could I possibly be that?
Add my welcome. Looks to me like you have the Eaton 1310. The place I’d suggest starting with it would be the Shop Manual. It has a whole section on the two speed axle. Another good reference would be to find an old Motors Manual on eBay or at one of the literature sellers. Same goes for the Shop Manual. Then if they don’t answer your questions, and after you have enough posts to do private messages, I’d be willing to make copies of these Eaton references and mail them to you.
Also, it’s pretty clear from your picture that your truck, like most others, has wheels with outer rims known as the Firestone RH-5°. Today just called widow makers, and not easy to find service on. The below pictures will help you see the joint at the middle of the rim that has earned them their reputation. Finding replacement wheels should be a priority. Stu
You might take a second look at his wheels, Stu. They look like lock rings to me. The front looks pretty clear, and the rear I think I see rivets in the middle.
