Oil weight

I have a 226 flat head six in my 49 F1. With a cold engine I get 40 psi oil pressure by the time the engine is warm I'm down to 7 to 10#. I'm using SAE 40 wt oil. I don't know if the engine has ever been rebuilt. I do have 95 psi compression in each cylinder. Will the engine survive on 7psi? How hard is it to pull the oil pump?
Thanks

What kind of gauge are you measuring pressure with? The dash gauges aren't very accurate. Are those pressures at idle?

If that is an idle pressure when hot and it goes up with acceleration then you will be fine. You likely have increased bearing clearances which results in reduced pressure. Pressure is nothing but resistance to flow, so increased clearance allows more flow, thus less resistance (pressure).

I put a removeable oil pressure meter on my 1953 F350. The dash gauge isn't even remotely close. The highest it would read is about 30 cold. The test gauge shows 60 cold. It also shows about 10 lbs at idle warm. and it shows that it increases with rpm. I was a little worried because dash gauge showed 0 when warm and didn't show the increase with rpm. Nothing was rattling or overheating, but zero on a gauge made me very nervous.

It is a gauge fed by an oil line not electric. I guess I'll stick with my SAE 40 wt.
Thanks for the replies.

Since discussing the oil system, where are you measuring from? Do you have the appropriate restrictor at the oil filter canister?

226's have the restrictor built into the filter adapter.
Might be worth dropping the pan to see how much sludge is in there.
