I'm looking to swap a 4x4 06 navigator 6hp26 transmission in my 06 Mark lt 4x4. I have the complete navigator, knocking 5.4 and all. Is it as simple as swapping the transmission and navigator ecu into my truck or wishful thinking? I have the keys to the navigator so I'm not worried about the anti theft when swapping computers. Just wondering if the navigator ecu can be used as a standalone for the transmission or still be compatible with my engine since they are both 5.4...
Ok so the ZF 6hp26 is the same as the 6R80 in V8s, just renamed by Ford....is this a simple swap or should I be aware of some kind of module that's needed?
Thanks for response and you are correct about 2009 being first year of 6R80s. I've searched around the net and found out that the trans I have is indeed a ZF 6hp26 which was introduced in 2005 explorer. Ford made improvements on this trans and renamed it in 2009. In 2011 Ford went from the transmission control unit/module being attached to the valve body to making it into the 'lead frame' (both are located inside the fluid pan for those not familiar). The lead frame design is more desirable because it makes it easier to swap into different vehicles, says USShift.com. Reason being you can simply buy a standalone aftermarket controller to run the transmission. So my option is to use the ECU from the navigator and make sure that both 5.4 3v engines run the exact same sensors and connectors etc......I will have to get the ECU flashed to my vin as well. These transmissions don't use internal bands which is good because the 4R75E I have now was notorious for reverse band damage which is why I am doing the swap versus rebuilding. The 6 speed transmission is capable of handling 1000 hp and even more with a tune and harder internals. See how long my 5.4 engine lasts with 218k on it. In the meantime I'll be checking to see if this 2012 3.7 Duratec engine can take its place.
