Hey guys...Just picked up a cute little 97 Stepside XLT with the 4.6. The body's in great shape, and should clean up nice.. but the motor is shot. Wondering can I install a 2v Mustang engine without too much wiring and computer headaches? Has anybody done this? What about a 3v Mustang engine?
3 valve will have camshaft phasers and require a different processor to run the actuators
Not absolutely sure, but I believe a 2V Mustang or Crown Vic / Lincoln motor will work fine
I'd get the exact same year and swap all the manifolds to the longblock out of the Mustang

a NPI 4.6 is a NPI 4.6 (obviously the valve covers relevant to the windsor or romeo heads will matter) the truck oil pan and accessory drive etc
but a fairly straight forward swap. I’d strongly encourage going with a PI setup though
