Sound like you're doing a good job of screening already. None of have taken you truck yet without paying for it. Also sounds like all you've lost so far is a little time.
when selling online every single time the potential buyer has any kind of a story other than I am interested, coming to look and bringing cash it is almost certainly a scam.
I gave up on selling vehicles on craigslist or FB market place a few years ago as only scam attempts and ridiculous lowball offers. I use autotrader and insist on using their closing service and passing all communications through their online chat. it has a higher cost but there are fewer scam attempts and they give up faster. Last car I sold on autotrader the buyer complained about having to pay the fees, reminded him that he did not have to buy it (think he was trying to get me to lower the price). I have done OK selling other lower cost items on craigslist, there is still a few scam attempts but they are usually easy to spot by referring to the item and not calling by name or wanting to ship.
Whenever you deal with someone selling or buying it ultimately is the responsibility of the seller or buyer to do everything possible to keep yourself safe.
I have bought and sold a lot on both CL and FB and have never been scammed. That is not saying I haven't encountered scammers using both to sell and buy. First if selling most times I sell locally and come into personal contact to exchange money and what I am selling. I've also sold items I had to ship. Again, I protect myself. I only accept personal checks or PayPal. With personal checks I warn the buyer I will ship the item until their check clears my bank. If they use PayPal I take the payment out of my PP account. If I am interested in buying an item I ask for additional pictures, pictures that are not included in their ads. I also insist, whether selling or buying, on a one to one phone call.
