I have 1976 F250 Long bed 4X4, need a new bed, fond a 1979 F250 2wd long bed. I had heard that 1977.5 t0 1979 may have a differant wheelbase. Is that right?

Is your 76 a real High Boy with a narrower rear frame section? Do you have a exposed bed side fill neck with NO gas flap? If yes and yes then the 77-78-79 bed mount holes are not going to line up with your skinner 76 frame bed holes. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...mpilation.html
As far as I know, all 73-79 F100-F350 long bed pickups have the same wheelbase unless you have a Super Camper Special.
The 140 inch wheelbase is used for the 2 wheel drive F350, it has nothing to do with Camper Special. The reason it is made that way with the longer wheelbase is because the F350 uses the same chassis as the dual wheel cab and chassis truck which if you ordered the truck with the Ford flatbed it was 9ft long, not 8ft.
If it's a highboy bed going on to a low boy 4wd or 2wd (with a common width rear part of the frame). Instead of drilling new holes in the bed, you can just weld some L brackets onto your frame and reuse those narrow frame bed bolt holes.
My truck has a round blank in the rear drivers side with no flap. It has saddle tanks, they look like add ons, plus in cab tank. I will have to use you diagrams to check it.
