Fuel Injector Replacement
Fuel Injector Replacement
Back in February 2025, #4 Fuel injector died and since this is the fourth injector I have had to replace, I had a pretty good idea what was involved. Unfortunately, I had to have a heart valve and a stent put in my heart during the month and I was staring my mortality in the face. I called the local Ford house hoping to talk to the service rep I have know since 2003. It turns out he has retired. I was referred to a much younger service rep and I was told that is really an old truck. I was referred to an older service rep and his reply was we really don't see many trucks that old. I then asked for the service manager hoping he might have some grey hairs and a good memory about this vintage. He replied I should probably replace all of the injectors. I told him that was not in the budget this year. So I asked him how much it would be to replace just #4. He didn't really know but assumed it would be between $1500 to $2000. Oh , he said they might have trouble getting the part.
For the last 20 or so years, I have driven past a local shop that does diesels, mostly of the commercial variety. They did have a few Fords out front of my vintage so I thought I would give them a try. I also decided to splurge and have them put in a new Ford Diesel Filter as I was not inspired to slither under the truck and suck up some diesel changing the filter. The service manager also drove a 2003 6.0. He said they used Alliant fuel injectors and had used them for years.Eveyone there seemed to be over 40 years old. I was sold! They were pretty busy so I had leave to the truck for a few days. A few days later, they called me and I went down and the total price was $813.47 for the fuel injector, and labor for the diesel filter and fuel injector. He also checked my truck over and said that that everything seemed OK. I have 120K mileage on it.
So, are Alliant fuel injectors decent or did I make a mistake? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Pure Power was the original OEM injector manufacturer (and re-manufacturer). A few years back, they made a deal with Alliant Power for them to do the sole marketing of their product. These are the injectors that you get from Ford. No doubt that Ford's prices are high for parts. You need a good relationship with the Ford parts department people if you own a 6.0L!
IMO it is CRITICAL for an owner (and a shop) to buy injectors from GOOD companies! There are several POOR ones (IMO) that come to mind (SINISTER and PENSACOLA). Too much false advertisement going on. Caution can pay dividends!
IMO the price you were charged was fair.

It is hot here also, and almost empty in the water supply (lake and reservoir). On severe water rationing.
I envy you with only 120k miles on the truck, but mine is still running well at 250k, except for a small downpipe or y-pipe leak. With my high-frequency hearing loss, it doesn't bother me much, lol!
