TPMS for the trailer?

I got to thinking... maybe I'm overthinking, but I was wondering if any/many of you use a TPMS system for monitoring your trailer tires.
I've never towed anything farther than 150 miles, and based on the many tire blow-outs my buddies have had on their enclosed trailers just towing 40 miles to the dragstrip...

What say you guys? Stand-alone trailer TPMS - Yea or Nay?

I don't think you will ever regret having that information available to you.

In my opinion, it is a necessity. We have tried a couple and the Tire Minder i10 has worked flawlessly for us.

I purchased an aftermarket one a couple years ago, I still have not had the time to use it.

Having a flat tire is not a real big issue for me. The issue is fixing all the damage the flat tire can do. No matter how you fix it, the scars are still there. If I can pull over to replace the low tire before it shreds, that is a good thing.

Saved my rear twice now. Notified me of a slow leak and I was able to pull over and change out the tire. I would highly recommend one.

I use the TST system and it has alerted me a couple time early enough to pull over before any damage is done. Also nice to just turn it on and see the status of each tire before towing. Better than having to check the pressure on each one with a guage.

100% YES! Especially one that reads tire temps as well as pressure. It's not a need or want but a must. Trailer tires go BOOM and the damage is no joke, it can take out part of the trailer. TST is a great system to use. Its programmable in a way that if you have more than one trailer you can set zones for each trailer.

I use a TST system and it works great. I like the psi and the temp reading. If you start having tread separation or other similar carcass failures, the temp often goes up some and the TST shows that often.

Tst 507 for me. I like that the moniter operates on an internal battery that can be charged from a USB port. No cords required to use as long as it is charged. Just changed my sensor batteries after 5 years. They still worked, but after 5 years....

Absolutely has saved me twice from a major issues with TST system. Just make sure you upgrade to metal valve stems if using the external sensors, learned that lesson the hard way unfortunately. Over time the will cause rubber ones to slowly leak due to the centrifugal force while rotating at 65+ mph.

Agree X 2 . I really love when i hook up trailer. Let it scan. Verify the tires PSI is ready to roll or i have to swing by the shop .

Saved my bacon so many times. Slow leaks are killers. and never know when you pick up a screw or nail. Blow out? won't help you there. Boom, You feel it, you see it. TPMS isn't a live feed and really don't matter if you have TMPS with blowouts or not.

Mine have temperature also.

Between 2 enclosed trailers and my 5th wheel I never had a TPMS that functioned. My 5th wheel came with a kit that wouldn't reach the teuck because the 5th wheel was too long. Kinda pointless. My 2 enclosed trailers never had any tpms system. I drove regularly hundreds of miles at a time and never had an issue. I purchased 2 spare tires for my 20 footer before driving from Michigan to Alaska and then drove down to Tennessee and then to Michigan and back to Tennesee and back to Michigan and back to Tennesee with that trailer and never had tires issues. I checked the pressure before every trip and kicked the tires at every stop.

Having a TPMS is just something to give you needed anxiety. Keep your speeds andload within the tire ratings and do routine inspections. Pay attention to the road and swerve to avoid potholes and debris in the road. How did we ever survive long road trips before TPMS?

My Ram pickup had TTPMS built in. I could watch all the trailer tire pressures on the dash display. It was so nice.

Many of the aftermarket TPMS systems do not have the range to be used 30' away. Some specifically state they are for auto or RV use or 'not suitable for trailer'. Other will state " 45' range " or they use a repeater/transmitter or some other sort of signal booster.
I had just picked up one that specifically states that it has 45'-range and is suitable for trailer use. Time will tell. If this system saves even one trailer tire from shredding, it will have paid for itself.
