I'm thinking of mounting a rear view camera on the rear of my truck, probably under the tailgate. Like what you find on the back of motorhomes, fire trucks, ect. I think it would help both in backing into tight spots, and backing up to a trailer. What are your thoughts? Also, does anyone know of a camera that would be small enough to mount under the tailgate, and still be able to let the tailgate down without hitting it?

Rear View Camera
Oh geeze.. and I thought I went overboard with conveniences! A rear view camera on a SD... oh well, if that's what floats your boat, then go for it. As a less expenseive alternative, I have been VERY pleased with my reverse sensors... doesn't let me see what I'm backing into, but it lets me know things are there before I hit them. Also a BIG help trying to paralell park in NY City.
I have the sensors on my excursion and like them a lot. I have also seen a couple of excursions with a rear view cams. I think there is a company that makes a kit with a rear view cam that mounts in the area of the third brake light and includes a monitor that replaces your rear view mirror!
I was just at a local stereo/auto store over the weekend and saw a sweet setup. Had a full color micro camera , along with a new rear-view mirror that had a color 2'' monitor in the left had corner. The owner of the shop has one on his 2002 Escalade , and when he puts the truck in reverse , the monitor turns on - very very very cool. The $800 price tag will prob. prevent me from ever adding this to my truck...
dont know if you guys have a FRY'S on your side of the world, but they have a kit for about $500... it was 299 for the rear view mirror with 2" screen, and 199 for the camera. it can operate two cameras

Good Idea! Than you can replace the windshield with a widescreen plasma monitor with DTS, HDTV and picture in picture!
