Fuel Pump Confusion
Fuel Pump Confusion
Hello all, I have a 2000 F-150 4.6 RWD extended cab with the short bed that I'm working on - 139" wheelbase. I purchased a new fuel pump assembly w/ hanger from Rock Auto, said it fits all three wheelbase options. I pulled the old pump and went to install the new one, but it won't fit - it's maybe 1/2" - 1" too tall (depending on how low it needs to hang). Looking at the old pump, the previous person had the same issue as that pump was mashed in there and made to fit, bending the hanger assembly, slightly kinking the hose off of the pump itself, and damaging the filter at the bottom. I'm thinking compressing the filter against the bottom of the tank and kinking the hose caused this pump to fail prematurely? I cannot find anything online about a different size pump hanger - all the listings look the same. The local carquest checked their pumps, and all of them are the same dimension. It doesn't appear to me that the tank was dented in causing the poor fit, but I can't find any info to verify whether there were different length hanger assemblies. Anybody have any experience with this issue? Or is my tank the issue? Thanks!
Rockauto does a great job of pulling the specs together and putting them on their product descriptions. Of the three assemblies they show, one of them is apparently made for a shorter tank. Tank height of 13.25" instead of 15". Might be your solution.
Click the Info button. Compare your part number. Good luck.

Been fighting the two tank sizes for years myself too
FORD parts always asked the gallons of the tank
Then
Had to give them the numbers off the tank for them to tell us the gallons
Used to bend the bigger ones to make them work
The shorter ones work just fine but don't read fuel level right
