DTE dropping fast

DTE dropping fast
On a trip the other day my DTE ( Distance to Empty) gauge started dropping so fast thought I was dumping diesel on the road. I’ve tried battery disconnect, ET (engineering test) mode, topping off fuel tank several times, draining water and checking fuses. It got down to 3 miles to empty. I heard it would go into limp mode at 0 miles. Anyone else have this issue before?

Yeah the DTE on the fuel gauge won't affect how the truck runs, though it is indicative of a problem if it drops that fast that suddenly.
Now, if it's the DTE on the DEF, yes, that WILL pull power and put you in limp mode. I don't think all trucks have a DTE on the DEF tank so I don't know.

Took it to Ford dealership
They said it was fuel pump module in tank. I guess it has an integrated sending unit? Funny thing is they also did recall work for a just released 6.7 Powerstroke recall. We are aware of the fuel pump failures on this engine and I understand that this recall is for reprogramming of the powertrain control module specifically aimed at " improved cooling" for the fuel pump for the purpose of reducing failures. $1500.00 parts and labor! Seems like they knew about this problem beforehand.
