I've heard many people with 92's mention there is a vacuum line missing it seems and when the vacuum is capped off the engine runs much better - this worked for me too - however, as soon as I started driving afterwards a horrible (maybe egg) smell filled up the whole truck and gave me a headache - could that mean the PCV is bad and why would it fumigate the cab suddenly - also should I have capped that vacuum hole or is it meant to stay open?
There are no open ports. There should be a hose or a cap on every port of the vacuum tree. PCV valve should be just below the vacuum tree. If that is missing it would vent a lot of noxious gas. Near the hood latch there is a vacuum diagram. There should be a hose going to the:
PCV valve on the valve cover
brake booster
fuel pressure regulator
speed control
climate control
automatic transmission vacuum modulator valve
any extra ports should be capped
If an automatic transmission, the vacuum modulator can leak transmission fluid into the vacuum hose when it gets old. This softens other hoses and they can fall off. Caps sometimes fall off.
If I had to guess, it sounds like your PCV valve is missing from the fumes you talk about.
