Tesla Universal Wall Connector.
Yesterday I installed a Tesla Universal Wall connector in place of the Gen 3 Wall Connector at my house. The Universal version gives me ability to charge either my Lightning or my Teslas without having to use a 3 rd party adapter. It also can be daisy chained with another Universal or Gen 3 Wall Connector to load share a single 60 amp circuit breaker.
The hardware installation went super easy. Just turn off the circuit breaker, verify no power at the unit and swap out the wall plate with the new one. Then reconnect the wires.
The connection software installation using the Tesla One APP progressed fine but at the end after the Success screen I got a message on the APP that "Wall Connector Offline Check Wi-Fi connection". HUH?
So I called Tesla Support at 877-798-3752 and after a 20 minute hold I was connected to a tech rep. He asked for the TPN and TSN numbers on the new unit and he said it was communicating with the Tesla servers fine. He looked at my account told me the old Wall Connector was still showing linked to my account and that was triggering the "Wall Connector Offline, Check Wi-Fi connection" message.
He put me on hold for a minute and "removed the old connector" from the Tesla server system. Immediately the error message went away on my app.
Problem solved. Everything works as designed. No longer is a third party adaptor needed to charge my Ford Lightning since the Universal has a built in adaptor.
Next project is to install the Gen 3 removed daisy chained to the new Universal to load share the single 60 amp circuit That way I can charge 2 EV’s at once. The Universal will be the “Leader” and the Gen 3 will be the follower. The leader controls the output of both chargers so that they don’t exceed 48 amps total on the 60 amp circuit. They communicate wirelessly. You can daisy chain up to 6 units
