Question poor running

here the fault can any one help bronco 2 2.9 4x4 engine starts and runs ok when cold but as soon as the engine warms up the engine surges at tick over and when you increase engine speed the engine tries to die and just sort of runs at a very lumpy tick over until you reduce engine speed and then the engine slightly picks up and revs increase, both the fuel pumps seem to be running ok but not sure if a duff pump would cause this problem
has any one heard of this before other wise its going up for sale very soon and i will go back to a landrover!!!

you went from a landrover to a b2?
after the problems I have had with mine I was thinking
a couple bullets for my 44 mag are much cheaper than all these trips to napa.
but it sounds like it might be timing problems.

yes true shooting the truck might help but thanks for the reply well i knew i should of shipped my 1967 series 2a landrover here when i moved to the us in august this year

HAve you tried pulling the codes, see the tech info post for the procedure on doing this on the eec-iv system.

thanks ken ive just pulled the codes the first test key on engine off pulled up 53 (dual temperature switch circuit is always open)
and the second test with engine running was 77 ???? the book i have didnt have that code!!!!!!

any answers ? ken or anyone else

According to www.dalidesign.com/hbook/2digit.html 53 is a fault in the throttle position sensor (TPS) circuit. 77 usually is caused by not "goosing" the engine at the appropriate point in the KOER test, but could also be caused by a fault in the TPS circuit (assuming the engine was goosed).
Testing the TPS is pretty easy; it's a simple variable resistor/potentiometer. Get a wiring diagram so you can "see" what it's supposed to look like, then check it out.

ok will find out first thing in the morning and redo the test when the engine run test is being carried out is the goosing signal 1 flash of the tester light as that one was confusing me and i guess the 77 code might confirm the goosing not done!!!!
