Baldwin B7039 oil filter issues

FYI. Found that a Baldwin B7039 oil filter is said to be a replacement oil filter for the pricey Motorcraft FL1995. I purchase 6 from Rockauto since I have a '99 F350 7.3 and a '00 F250 7.3 and both trucks have issues with the Baldwin filters leaking at the oil filter gasket sealing surface. Fortunately, they will only leak when the engine is not running. Originally I thought it was just a bad gasket on one of the filters, but both trucks had the same issue. After finding a decent synthetic media oil filter locally at O-Reilly's(Microgard Select MSL51734 $11.99) I obviously needed to change them both out. I checked the Baldwin and it's sealing gasket has 3 15/16" O.D., whereas the Microgard has 4 1/8" O.D. Just an FYI for those trying to find a replacement oil filter for a 7.3. Hope this helps someone.

No leaks with the Microgard, not sure what the O.D. of the Motorcraft FL1995A is( I did try to find this spec online, but never did), it used to be my "go to" filter when you could buy it for $9.99 at Walmart or even Autozone, but since it is now almost $30 I wanted to find an alternative. My '00 F250 now has 416K on it and I usually change oil/filter at 4k miles, so I've replaced many oil filters on this truck, as far as I can recall the Baldwin is the first one to leak.

As stated earlier, I run Baldwin filters on most of my equipment, so this post bothered me, given your measurements there's 3/16 inch difference,

I pulled out a new in box FL 1995-A and Baldwin 7039, here's my measurements:
OD 3.963 both the same
Width M .1880, B .200 ... Baldwin+ .012 wider
Thickness: M .1075, B .1085 Baldwin + .001 thicker.

Looks like Baldwin built to Motorcraft specs only a little thicker and wider.

I am not trying to throw Baldwin filters "under the bus" so to speak, I have run them for years on our business's off-highway/construction equipment without any issues. Upon installing the B7039, it looked smaller in overall diameter but was said to be a direct replacement, so I didn't compare the O.D. of the gasket to the FL1995-A that it replaced. I was actually waiting at a construction site for a city official and noticed the puddle of oil under the '99 F350 while I walked back to the truck. I figured it was an oil cooler issue(I have replaced those O-rings/gaskets due to an oil leak), I got under the truck and found the oil coming from the filter gasket area. I left the meeting and found an Advance Auto parts, drove up on the parking stop so I could fully get under the truck to see if the oil filter was loose, nope it was tight. Sitting it would drip, but running it wouldn't, which was fortunate for me for this construction project was 2.5 hours from home. I purchased a gallon of Valvoline 15w-40 to replace the 2 or so quarts that leaked out and headed home(oil and filter was changed about 1 week earlier). Once home I replaced that filter with a Fram Ultra that I had stockpiled and topped off the oil, I then looked at my '00 F250 and found it was also leaking, just not as bad, again filter was tight. I have no reason to bring this to anyone's attention other than to let others know of what I found. I am not saying for everyone to throw out or stop using a Baldwin B7039 oil filter, I just wanted to convey what my experiences were with them on two different 7.3 engines that I own. Maybe I purchased a bad batch of B3709 oil filters, not sure, but I can't in good faith install another one and take the risk. I have 2 unopened Baldwin B7039 oil filters, if anyone wants them, I'd send them to you if you pay the shipping.
