:-X12 I am looking at trading up my 97' F150 For a 2000 SD/psd/ sb 4x4. Are there any problems I should be looking for ? I have never owned a deisel, any pointers would be great. Thanks!!!
Watch for loose turbo bolts, cavitation damage to cooling systems, the dreaded "cackle" and general lack of maintenance signs (as with any other truck). The PSD is very reliable, but very costly to repair and expensive (in relation to gas) to maintain. Oil changes generally run about $50.00, unless you do them yourself. The motor will probably last longer than the truck will. If it has an auto tranny, that is the weak point in the system. If it was used for doing lots of hauling, you might want to have the tranny inspected. It is a great working mans motor. Good luck:-)
I agree! The PSD is great but it must be taken care of and it does cost more to maintain. If you follow the maintenance intervals in the owners manual you will be fine. I bought my fist PSD last year and so far love it and have not had any problems. Good luck and have fun what ever you decide...

I believe it is related to fuel pressure and associated with power loss for some. Go do a search in the forums on the 7.3 for cackle. There is enough reading for 2 days over there on the subject.
As a "gasser" I don't cluck or cackle
Geez I just noticed passing the 400 post barrier. Just a virgin around here
