odometer accuracy
I am looking at a 96 xlt that has an odo reading of 16000,
it is in great condition and runs very well, but I am
suspicious about such a low number.
how trustworthy/accurate/tamperproof are these
digital odommeters?

There prety accurate, but thats not say they cant be tampered with, but at 16000 mls.just some things to check for wear that may give you a better idea, check for wear on the Brake/gas peddle, the paint and tread plate in the door jamb, the carpet on the drivers side floor, the drivers side seat, the ring of the stearing wheel, the arm rest driver side, and the top of the door panel where you prop your arm, and the condition of the nylon on the door strikers, especialy the drivers side, all these are places that will see normal wear the quickest, but if it only has 16000 mls on it, then there should be hardly any sighns of wear in these places if it was taken care of.
