Topper fit/finish

I just got my ARE topper. Color matched to my truck. I'm "OK" with it, but my wife is disappointed with:
  • The bottom outside edges are "sharpish". She feels they should be at least slightly radiused. Both for appearance as well as removal/re-installation
  • The bottom edges, which are clearly visible if you are less than 5' tall and/or bend down, is not painted. So you see a white stripe. Now, I don't know who to "blame" for this - does ARE paint them, or the installer? The dealer was a body shop, so they could have painted it, but it would actually make more sense to me for ARE to do it at the factory, before the windows/doors are fitted.
Granted, both of those items are a bit nit-picky, Actually, I would have to call them very nit-picky, as I am a very picky person and neither of them bothered me in the least UNTIL she pointed them out. Yeah, can't unsee that/

One more, that was my own, and I questioned the installer when picking it up. Apparently the factory places aluminum "pads" for where the clamps go to secure to the bed, and the installer had placed the clamp 8-10" off from one of them. They told me that ARE "sticks those anywhere but we like to place the clamp as far towards the end as possible". Which they had. Seems like ARE should send loose pads and let the installer place them where applicable.

Any other "complaints" I have are those of my own making. For instance. I didn't order the "prop open" light option, because I didn't want the interior lights going on every time I opened the door. But I didn't realize that it would come with a 3-position switch, that would enable or disable that function, just like your typical auto interior light. The other is that I got an extended height cap, and when the door is open, even my 6'2" height, with a long arm 8'+ reach, I can't catch the end of the door when it's open... I have to grab it about half-way down on one of the edges. I will end up adding some sort of a strap, as my wife will not be able to reach any of it without a ladder...

Having a black truck, the non painted bottom would bother me. You can add lights that will be way better than any stock, probably for less money. I put lights in the cap and on the bottom of the door. I agree with closing the cap door.

i bought a used white one last year

took it to my guy that paints cars and hot rods
he painted it the match the black
they removed all sharp edges and even popped out the windows to paint it black...it was a leer and the areas under the windows was primer, vice the white like the rest.
they cost to much to put up with sharp edges and half *** construction

The lights in mine are fine - there are two rows of LEDs, front to back. BUT, I like the switch being where you have yours - mine is at the top, and I can barely reach it.

I just hung a relatively short rubber bungee strap on the lock rod. Looks a bit redneck but works fine/great.
