I recently installed a fiberglass functioning cowl Hood on my 2008 F350 5.4 gas....and I have a k&n cold air intake.... I'm guessing I should be upgrading fuel injectors now because I'm getting a p0171 and p0174 codes... Anybody have any suggestions for what upgraded injectors I should get.....
.
New and covered in K&N filter oil is what he's getting at. Did you gain any HP or just more noise? Heres the issue with the so called CAI kits. The OEM system drew real cold air in from outside and in front of the grill. The CAI's draw air in from under the hood where temps are much higher than in the wind. Hood scoop or not, I'll wager the intake temps are higher than pre K&N system.
I'm going to have to disagree....this cold air intake is completely enclosed and only draws from hood outside air...it's not just sitting in the engine bay
I wash my k&n filters , have 2 , then use only the slightest amount if oil , and let it sit a fee days , I have one baking right now in fact .
mine is fully enclosed , draws air from the headlight .
The factory air box and associated parts are quite restrictive in comparison to the K&N .
So does the “cowl hood” which actually looks like it’s a Ram Air style hood and not a cowl design feed it’s captured air into the CAI? If not, how does the hood tie into your thinking that you may need larger fuel injectors? If it does, can you share a few pics of how that is accomplished?
Freeing up the intake air flow will not get you to the point of needing more fuel than the stock injectors can supply, a turbo or supercharger, sure but you are not there yet.
I'm not really a fan of the aftermarket hoods, but that one looks really good. Fits the truck well. I'd also like to see how the hood and CAI inter-connect. Pics are much appreciated!
I'd go for the cheap fix first and see if you can clean your new MAF sensor. Pull it out and use the specialized spray.
all my intercooler pipes are metal now and without the vented hood the metal piping attracts a lot of radiant heat ….big drop in temps just by venting the hood.
do obvious mpg changes but my regens are further apart
rhe the same hood setup on my previous truck was 1400 painted to match on both sides……about 6 years later price went up to 1900 painted on both sides.
I am not having any high temps issues, I am just looking for an escape for the high temps from the turbo and exhaust manifolds. This should also reduce running temps as well. Plus it will look cool AF and be functional. Just FYI for anyone who has never heard of Run Cool hood Louvers.
My truck is black and I would buy the black vent with stainless steel rivets.
I'd most likely do a thread here as well as in the 6.7 section where I spend most of my time...
I'm retiring next year so it won't likely be done until then.

Having used CAIs on multiple vehicles over the years, you're still getting a LOT of hot engine bay air, unless you fully sealed the box with insulation. Heck the BEST one I ever had was on my 6.0 and even that didn't really reduce intake temps. They claimed a 20hp improvement on the 6.0 but I can't say that I believe it.
That said, I agree with above - a K&N as oiled from the box likely will take out a MAF sensor. They are way over-oiled from the box, and their cleaning/recharge instructions suggest way too much oil. What I did when I used them (haven't bothered in years - today's intakes don't restrict flow very much at all) was I would buy the aerosol cleaner and oil, clean the filter til it was white, then spray enough oil on to make it turn BARELY pink. Then let it sit for at least a few hours, even if it was in the truck, before driving it. Never had a MAF issue that way.
