Under cab fuel pump issue?

Recently my truck has started a low hum. I have tried to teach it the lyrics but the low hum persists.

It starts when the key is turned on, but before the engine is started. It does not change pitch once engine is running, just a low, constant hum.
If I turn the key on and not start the engine, it hums for a bit then abruptly shuts off. The source of the sound seems to be right at the canister filter directly below the drivers position, near the frame rail.

Based on this, is it likely I'm correct in the assumption my fuel pump may be going out and if so, what does it typically run to have it replaced?

I would change the two fuel filters first and then reevaluate. If that doesnt work check for air getting into the lines prior to the pump aka loose connectors etc.

I think you are on the right track….the fuel pump shuts off prestart once psi pressure is achieved.

is their any chance the filter is due for changing…could also be clogged ahead of schedule due to fuel contaminates.

Definitely sounds like lower fuel pump. I had this issue with my 11 and I tried everything. New fuel filters, new pump, and new lines from tank, and never got it go away.

When you say it turns off abruptly, how long? With key on engine off, it will run about 30 seconds then shut off. That's how it's primed when changing the FD-4615 filter set. The manual says 6 priming cycles. I go double then past... I do at least 15 30 second cycles to prime after a filter set change. So you can still hear it after the truck is started? I'll have to see if I can still hear mine with the radio and AC off. Do you have anything to monitor primary fuel pressure in your truck at all?

Well I took my truck into the garage I use that I trust. Told them what I was hearing and my suspicions.

Few hours later they had it fixed, for now.

Seems the bushing that the cab is mounted on are failing, the cab dropped low enough one of the fuel lines was rubbing against the cab and creating the hum.
They secured the fuel line where it doesn't rub anymore and the hum his gone.
They said to replace the bushings for the cab runs about 1K.
Their fix only cost $127.00.
I'm happy.

Thanks to all that took the time to read and advise me.

Oh yeah, the awesome Ford Cab bushings. Get some S&B silicone bushings and be done with that mess for the life of the vehicle.

Looks like a good option.
Must profess ignorance and can prove that if needed, what are the advantages of the S&B over factory if I'm keeping the truck for maybe six more years?

The OEM bushings are made of foam while the S&B are made of Silicone. If you are lucky the OEM bushings may last 5 years, while the S&B bushings will last 30 years. I have seen OEM bushings completely shot after 2 years.

I must be lucky, or maybe the crap Ziebart done along with the Carwell oil treatment each year, because I'm still rocking my factory body bushings... must be all that southern heat destroying those that you mentioned.

Yep, S&B bushings will go in at some point in time...

Very well could be, when I removed mine for the S&B bushings the foam just crumbled. The outside of the bushing looked great and felt hard but the interior of the bushing turned to powder.
