offset for front wheels w CV swap?
sorry for yet another offset question. I've done a CV swap on my truck and am looking to determine offset. The look we're going for is like the picture below. We'll be running 17" American Racing torq thrust II rims. The rear axle we've got is from a 2001 CV so I'm going to measure 2 or 3 times before ordering these.
Any thoughts or experiences you can share would be appreciated.
I have a 2001 Mercury GM with the 17"x7" "Sport" wheels, a 5 spoke alloy wheel, uses P235/55R17 tires on it.
We have a2008 Mustang with the 17"x8" American Racing Torq thrust M rims (AR605M7866C Wheel, AR605M Torq-Thrust M, Aluminum, Chrome) and I have 235/55R17 tires on those too. They have 30mm offsets, but use same 5x4.50 lug pattern. I would need spacers to make them look right on the Mercury though, as the Mustang uses the same offset as a 2003 or newer Mercury.
- Offset is how far from wheel Center Line the mount surface is, usually in MMs.
- Back Space is an easy to measure external measure of depth on the back side of a wheel. 25.4 mms is an inch. 50 mm is 50 / 25.4, or 1.968", almost 2". 6 mm is 6 / 25.4 or 0.236", a bit less than 1/4".
- A 255/55R17 tire is designed to be about 255 mm wide at the widest part, it will change with wheel width though. 255 mm is 255 / 25.4 or 10.04".
- The 55 is how tall the tire sidewall is in percentage of width. 10.04 x 0.55 is 5.52", so double that and add the 17" wheel height and you have pretty near 28" overall height.
- All are "design" specs.
I figure you probably knew most all of that, but I needed the review.
