This summer I started to work on my 1979 ford f100 project. When I bought the truck about 2 years ago I knew that it got into a little accident in 1996 and was hit in the rear. Nothing too major but the rear end needed to be fixed but was never finished. When I bought the truck it came with a rear bumper replacement but the rear bumper is from an 86 F-150. That rear bumper doesn't fit onto the 79 so i think that previous owner was doing some modifications to the rear end so he could make the rear bumper fit. Does anyone know if this is how the original rear end Brackets looked or does anyone have any pictures on how it should look. Any help would be appreciated.
You can see in the background the rear bumper
the brackets that were attached to that bumper we're almost non-existent because of how rotten they were. Apparently that bumper had been sitting in tall grass for almost a decade. Would it be able to tell me on the build sheet what type of bumper that my truck had originally?
As you can see in my picture, the stock dressy bumper used bolts through the top and bottom in those rectangle holes and there were some flat steel supports out to ends that I didn't use.
Maybe someone will come along that knows the answers you seek. That one you have is pretty roached out.
Thanks for all the help anyway. I have been trying to buy a rear bumper for my truck but i cant find any in southern Ontario. The one guy who had a few ghosted me so he was no help. The other ones i find are over 20 hours away.
Looks like you need the hard to get Sport/Contour bumper brackets. The piece of "pipe" with the smashed flat and bent ends is 73-76 ish (?) way of doing it. Twisted flat bar is 77-79 style. Pay no mind to the added on angle iron piece on the inside. 1978/79 Bronco also used the same brackets for the Sport/Contour bumper used on the rear.

I keep thinking might be I should add something like that, but just never got a roundtuit.
"Sport/Contour bumper" .... I always forget the proper nomenclature.
I appreciate that you are willing to sell the bumper brackets but I'm going to have to pass on that. Nothing personal but I'm going to order a set of reproduction brackets from LMC. They are a bit closer to where I am.
I totally understand, I live 2 hrs from Lenxa Ks and have made the drive to the LMC catalog warehouse before. Kinda cool showroom, they had a awesome looking 1979 Bronco setting in there. I did not know they were repoping the brackets, please let us know how they fit.
