I have a 2008 F250 with a 5.4 l. In short the engine blew after 190,000 miles. I found an 05 Expedition with the 5.4 L engine in it and only 130,000. I purchased the truck and planning on swapping the engine. My question is this, I have a melling m360 high pressure oil pump on the blown motor should I transfer it over to the new one? The oil pump can't have more than a thousand miles on it. I bought it in a attempt to prolong a worsening engine to no avail. Thanks for your time
Just to clarify though... The pump is "high pressure" or "high volume"?
The high pressure pumps are not recommended for these type engines, only the high volume.
If you did indeed use a high pressure unit, I would not reuse.
Also, when you say the engine blew up, did this involve metal bits blown apart?
Metal in the oil is not going to be good going through the pump & then re-using it.
High Pressure high volume. It's the melling pump the ford tec on youtube recommends. I can't think of his name. I lost oil pressure and so I went to the high volume pump and it lasted for about a month and I just gradually lost more and more pressure until it wouldn't run right. When it's cold it has 60 PSI as soon as it hits operating temperature it drops to eight PSI.
I plasti gauged all my bearings on the crank and they was all within spec. The cams had to have been the problem
