1991 Diesel - whats this??
1991 Diesel - whats this??
a 91 F350 speced out with what might have been a ambulance package originally. its now derelict ranch truck.
there is a fibre pan or panel, black, held in place with four bolts that covers just the bottom of the 5 spd transmission underneath. there are two metal supports that are bolted to the frame that hold this panel in place. it is clearly a factory piece or a very nicely designed panel from an upfitter has anyone seen this kind of pan ? it serves no real purpose that i can see
ambulance package would never be a 5 speed now that i ponder this...it gets weirder. the axles have sway bars front and rear the cab is a custom level with a/c but no tilt or cruise.
no power windows... and the cab is uncut for a special body.
oh and its 161 w b. with 5/16" frame. that is super duty territory. the frame is metric and probably not 5/16 exactly , but its the same frame as a FSD of the same year. its suspension is tonner not FSD. springs are tonner with overloads and stamped steel hangers.
sterling with a 60 front, hubs and a 1356. all that is normal. its a dually
has anyone run across this? i have not ever in the multiple early era fords ive owned , or who have owned me seen this combination. and not on any truck have i seen that odd fiber pan what purpose would that have served?
and of course i have no photos. you would not want to see this wreck anyhoo. its beat.
thx
dave

could very well be a mix up of parts. F SuperDuty frame, with F-350 cab swapped on it and 4X4 conversion using F-350 axles.
i have seen quite a few like that, and even built two myself.
the truck in my avatar is an FSuperDuty converted to a 4X4 pickup using a front end wrecked F350 parts.

that swap you mention is the very thing i will bedoing here-
three trucks into one. two tonners into a 91 FSD.
this is an original intact tonner as the spring perches and associated components are all the " light duty" series.
except frame . i cannot recall the last ford i owned that had two sway bars except the SD series.
but really that pan beneath the transmission ...have you run across that ever? im going to drop it today and " look- see".
when the truck goes back together i will put that pan back in jus for fun.

everything i have ever seen under these old beasts from ford is thick steel skid plates. the ones on my 88 are 1/4 inch thick and heavy as all get out.
its a fibre resin piece held on with 4 6mm bolts. its Ford's but dang if i can say its anything more than a sound deadener.... in a location that will offer no advantage to that purpose...
it just occured to me this is insulation blanket for the north slope. yukon etc. that is its purpose. keep things warm. the t case is mot covered. but trans is.
