Hi y'all, i just joimed and have a question..i have a99 f350 sd with the 6.8 and 4r100, it has almost 200k on it...2 days ago i was pulling a trailer that had maybe 1000 lbs on it, i noticed that the truck wasnt shifting right, then going thru town , when i had to stop at red lights, i had to rev it up to get it to go and it finally wouldnt shift out of first gear...when i got home , i also found out i had no reverse at all...the fluid is full , doesnt smell burnt and is still a cherry red color.....im not much of a mechanic, so i need to know if its toast, or if it could be something fairly cheap to fix ...im disabled and cant afford to spend much on this , thanks !!!
welcome to this site, the problem is major internal issue ,which sadly with 200k on the unit ,means your are looking at a trans rebuild , . only you alone can make up your mind about how to proceeded with a costly repair

Thats what i was afraid of lol....if i get a used one would the computer need reflashing or is plug and play ? Also, would a 4r100 out of a diesel work ?
a reflash NO, a diesel trans and convertor will not work on a V10 , if you have 2wd you need a 2wd trans if it's a 4x4 you need a 4x4 as the output shafts are different lengths'.
It needs to be rebuilt or replaced with another trans from a V10. A 5.4L trans will physically bolt up, but doesn't have the clutch plate count to last long at all behind a V10. A diesel trans will not bolt to a V10.

I have no idea what the history of the truck is , it appears the trans was taken out at some point , i saw a couple of bolts missing , and there is some kind of yellow sticker on the bottom of the trans, but its impossible to read much of it
It might make things worse also. I figure since you're thinking of selling it because of a major existing issue, it might be worth a roll of the dice to see if it is something big and easy.
