They have been working fine when locking the doors with both the fob and the securicode key pad. They just quit folding with either. They work with the fold button on the door "arm rest" if the truck on running (or ignition "on"). I went into settings>mirrors>autofold, and it was still "on". I cycled it on/off, opened and closed the doors, and all kinds of combos to try to reset something. Still nothing.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me nervous for long term ownership. If the software doesn't show an error, how would anyone ever fix it?
when in doubt try unhooking the battery for an hour or so, then rehook it up. its my goto idea for strange electrical item fails. then restart the truck and let it run a few minutes before testing. i cant wait to hear if this works.
Yes, tailgate closed. So summarizing, because I got a PM on it, they don't fold if I lock with the keypad, fob, OR button on the exterior door handle.
BUT... Over the weekend we went to our place in the hills where we pull our travel trailer 8 miles over a pretty rough road, about 10mph rough. When we got camp all set up, I locked the truck and the mirrors worked. After driving back home over the same rough road, they didn't work again. Crap, that sounds like a hardware fault, stuff getting jiggled around.
Lemme close this out with an update for whomever might search it in the future, confirming what Friss said above. I just randomly discovered that if the tailgate is down, the mirrors won't fold when the doors are locked. That's either with the fob or keypad. I don't know if that's true with all levels, but with my Platinum with a power tailgate, that is the case. Enjoy.

Not just down, but up and not fully latched (as in light on the dash). Sometimes my Tonneau stops the tailgate from fully latching. I had the same issue, mirrors wouldnt fold in.
Same issue here. Mirrors suddenly stopped folding automatically but would fold with the switch on the door.
Tailgate appeared to be fully closed but I kept getting an intermittent tailgate warning on the dash. I finally made the connection and opened the tailgate and gave it a good slam, and sure enough, the mirrors started folding again.
The seal on my folding bed cover causes just enough friction on the top of the tailgate to keep it from latching completely when it’s closed too gently.
I also had this issue with only the passenger side. I went to get in my truck one day an noticed the mirror wasn't folded like the drivers side. Got in and hit the button and the mirror would move in a little bit like it was trying to move but really didn't. Also wouldn't extend fully out and would fold on its own driving down the road. I was forced to zip tie it open to safely tow a camper.
Made an appointment with dealer Service department they looked at it and warranty denied the claim of replacement. This is a brand new 2025 F250 Lariat with all the bells and whistles. $84,000 truck with 5,500 miles on it. Warranty deined the claim because they see scratches on the outside of the mirror claiming it was hit. Which I call BS on because if it was hit there would be damage to the turn indicator lense and there is none. In fact I didn't even know they were there. Denied Warranty claim so the dealer offered ford assistance program which basically means ford and dealer will cover 60% of total infalted cost of the mirror assembly which is $2400 which leaves me roughly $1000 out of pocket to pay. If a scratch like this break Ford's mirror autofold motor than I fear product quality has gone down the toilet. Got friends and family assistant involved and they claim nothing more can be done.

This will be the last Ford we ever own .
AROD did a video on rebuilding the mirrors with an upgraded innards.
If I recall, the "upgrade" was $400ish plus install/labor.
The video did show most of the disassembly process if you want to attempt your own repair.

so, occasionally the motor gets out of sync. It's happened to me a couple times on the passenger side. When that happens you have to manually open or close it and then cycle the open close with the button. The last time I had to manually fold it fully forward and then back to normal.

Those "scratches" remind me of what you'd get if the mirror brushed by some bushes at a campsite (not saying that is what happened, just saying the "scratches" remind me of that). If Ford says the power mirrors cannot withstand even light contact with something like leaves and twigs, then the manual mirrors start to make much more sense to me. I have been going back and forth with power vs manual for a future truck purchase, and your post is eye-opening to say the least.

Yep... My cous is a Ford tech and has said that there's more red tape to get Ford to cover side mirrors repairs than any other part.
Good for you to vote with your wallet on your next purchase.
