I got the truck with no cats and a 2 into 1 muffler and lets just say its way to loud. So I was thinking something along the lines of a true dual setup with an h pipe where the factory connector would have been with 2.5 in pipe all the way back with borla pro xs mufflers. I'd rather not have to buy new cats but if some new high flow cats are going to help it a lot I might consider it. I'd like it to be as quite as possible without putting cats back on but still have good flow. Or would a smooth transition y pipe to a single in/out muffler be better for low to midrange power
having owned a 05 v10, removing the cats DID make for some very unfavorable driving , same for cat backs, i tried 3 brands went back to bone stock , even spent a few days strapped down on a dyno, finding it lost power without back pressure ,while a 03 2 valve save for the ugly sound made more power with a freer flowing exhaust
Would you say that the factory PCM firmware is optimized for the back pressure of the oem exhaust, and that 'improving' the exhaust degrades performance ? If so, is there a tune available from a 3rd party that can adjust/compensate for this ?
V-10s are notoriously difficult to make sound good in the aftermarket.
I personally like the sounds that they make, until I hear a bad exhaust slapped on one. I've heard a few that sound nice with aftermarket exhaust, and of those, when I could catch up to one, they were always single exhaust and likely had cats in them because they were plated in an emissions area.
