I decided to pull the plug on the 15” upgrade from
infotainment for my STX. Figured while I was in there, I’d upgrade the upper glovebox to the one that has a door on it from a local totaled unit.
Went to install it and realized Ford has a different dash cover for the passenger airbag that doesn’t allow the slightly larger glovebox to fit. Seems Like this was more hassle than it was worth having different sizes across the models.
I just purchased an upper glove box for my 2023 XL.
The old one came out easy enough, but I couldn't fit the new box in, I didn't realize I needed a whole new dash cover.
Not sure what to do now.
Why make them the same when F knows we tinker around and then need to get more stuff (rhetoritcal). Keeping things standardized would definitely be nice but probably a pipe dream.
Somewhere there was a cost/benefit analysis done to see if it was worth it to have a different dash pad along with the different upper glove boxes. Somehow it came back saying yes there was a cost benefit to the extra tooling needed to make the XL specific dash cover, likely due to fleet sales (they're mostly XL trucks).
