9" rear end problems
I pulled the rear apart. Last year I put new clutches in a factory limited slip. Thought I had messed something up, I didn't see anything wrong, not even bits of metal shavings or anything you'd expect to see after hearing grinding noises. Put it back together, Same result. With the trans in park and the back of the truck off the ground I can't turn the drivers side axle, passenger side will turn and make the noise I was hearing. I thought that the splines on the limited slip were shot. I bought a new replacement limited slip diff and put it in the stock third member, still does it. I don't see much wear on the axle splines, I'll include a picture of the splines. I can't believe that there wasn't any metal from the noises I was hearing. Really confused. The pinion is fine, no play or leaking. With the wheels the ground and the trans in neutral, the driveshaft can't be turned, I used a pry bar through the u-joint to really yoke on it.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Jess
