Thumbs up ford questions???

got some questions to ask,

why did'nt ford put a standard trans behind the 351 in a half ton?

can i swap a manual trans in from a 3/4 ton??

can i convert a 95 speed density system to a 96 maf system?

I don't know why ford didn't put a standard behind the 351 more than one year in the half tons. They did in '88 only, then never again.

I would guess you could swap one in, but you would have to swap computers to a manual computer.

I wouldn't go near a '96 maf system. It is EEC-V, OBD-II and is much more complex than the older EEC-IV which is OBD-I. Some 95's had MAF systems on them. I'd try to find a computer from one of those along with the wiring harness. Even if it is from a 5.0 truck, with MAF, it uses the mass of air entering the engine to know how much fuel to inject, and isn't dependent upon engine size.

The 351 was too strong of a motor for the 5 speed used in the 300 and 302s. They didn't want to put the stronger ZF transmission in because it cost a lot more money (the 5 speed from the 300/302 are cheaper to produce). That kinda made me mad but what are ya gonna do.

Keep in mind any transmission questions belong in the transmission forum. You're better off not putting all questions in 1 post if they are regarding two subjects (tranny/MAF).
