Wiring

I would like to start wiring my 53. I bought a 21 circuit EZ wire harness.

1. where are most of you putting the fuse panel. I would try and like to hide the wires as best as possible and keep a clean look.

2. do I need to add a bunch of relays or anything?

3. what kind of connectors are you guys using? I was looking at using Deutsch connectors, but I haven’t purchased anything yet. It would be nice to be able to unplug everything in case I ever need to pull the cab.

4. Does anyone have any pictures of how they hid their wires?

I used the same EZ wiring harness, I put my fuse block up under the dash just under where the original wiring comes through the firewall. I'm not sure what you are doing with your truck electrical wise, I wired mine for the necessities, less A/C and sound system at this time anyway. Check out www.delcity.net , I used "weather pack", it's similar to the " Deutsch connector". I ran all my wiring exposed in the engine compartment using a wire loom like "Panduit".

I ran engine room wiring thru plastic loom up the back of the block the thru chrome tubing on each side of the right valve cover. Lower tube has a/c and fan wiring...upper tube has choke and distributor wiring

I’m thinking of possibly putting the fuse panel between the seats where the center console would be. And then I can run everything down through the floor that goes outside and anything that goes up into the dash would just go through the console up into the dash. Any thoughts on that good idea orbad idea

Fullyford,
Hello. If this links works it shows an EZ WIRE install by Mike Briggs who use to work for Bobco Autobody in California. They have turned out outstanding over the years.

hope this helps

On my 49 I made a drawer that slide out and mounted the fuse panel on it and I tried to hide all the wires I could. I can't find the picture at this time

From: Kemptville, ON,
My fuse panel is under the dash. All wiring that goes through the engine bay is wrapped in that black plastic stuff. Most of my connections are soldered . I will need to take some of it apart to paint so I might switch to weatherpak on some of them. I used a different kit and did not have to buy anything more.

I am not using a factory head light switch so I think I’ll have to use a relay from my light button to a relay then to the floor dimmer. Not sure what else would need a relay.

I like that article with the dome lights in the door.

I would use relays on headlights regardless of your switch...short run of heavy gauge wire for lights and use switch wire to key the relays
good article by Steve Delanty another FTE guy will help

In my opinion the original style ignition switch is not up to the task if you have anything much more than stock, electric fans, AC compressors and electric fuel pump should definitely be on relays,

I mounted my fuse panel to the right of the parking brake handle. It’s mounted at an angle which hids it better but still leaves it readily accessible. Just above it I mounted a piece of 1”
square tubing that spans the full width of the underdash. I kept the original battery location and mounted a 200A solenoid beside it. The wiring for the battery/solenoid/starter runs along the square tubing and thru a piece urethane tubing inside the kick panel. All wiring going to the rear of the truck goes thru the driver side kick panel. Everything forward of the firewall runs thru the original wiring grommet, except the wiring for the alt, dist, elec choke, and senders. Those wires run thru a grommeted hole just below the brake booster. All wires are loomed for a clean look. The picture of the fuse box was taken when I began the wiring project.

I made a panel that fits into the driver side kick panel area that swings out for access.

I think I’m going to hide the fuse box in the driver kick panel. Made a mount just have to figure out how I want to mount it. Front and rear in think will run out the bottom of the cab corner. Engine in think will come out just above the transmission. Ordered a duetsch connectors and some grommets
