i have a 93 ranger, 4cyl, 2.3L, 183k 5sp. i know very little about repairing my vehicle. the other day i was driving and out of nowhere a thick steam was coming from the hood. i opened the hood and it appeared as if the top radiator hose was leaking. it was dark and i couldn't see that well. the next day i took a closer look at the hose and it was fine. however, the metal pipe that connects to the top radiator hose is corroded and is crumbling. theres a giant hole in it and it looks like it can't be repaired. i tried to remove the hose to see exactly how corroded the pipe is, but it looks like that part of the pipe will come with the hose when i pull it off, even if i slowly slide it off. any advice as to what i should do about this? how much will a repair/replacement of the pipe cost? am i (someone who has minimal experience under the hood) capiable of doing the repair/replacement or is this problem too extensive? and finally, what is the name of this pipe that i'm speaking of?
thanks in advance for your help!
kind regards,
mark
Is this the metal pipe coming from the top of the block or the inlet for the radiator? To remove a hose that is stuck on, I would take a sharp utility razor and slowly cut the hose to remove it.
Thanks for the reply, Dan! The metal pipe that is corroded is coming from the top of the block and not to the radiator. I'm not exactly sure what the pipe is called. I'm probably going to cut the hose off and see if I can repair the pipe. If I can't, is the pipe replacable? Thanks again!
