I Have a 76 mercury marquis with a 460 4bbl on it. Does anybody have a schematic drawing of this system? It also has What I think is a vacuum pump just above the alternator, am I correct?
thanks in advance!
Steve
P.S. Reason is, I plan to put this motor in my 81 F250 4X4 (351m) reg. cab 8"box.
he pump that you are refering to is the smog pump that pumps air into the exhaust and the back of the heads to help lower emmisions.
I used a 460 out of a 77 Mark V in my 77 F150.
You will definately need to find the correct oil pan for your truck. The car one will not fit. You will also need either truck exhaust manifolds or headers. The pass side car manifold will not clear the frame unless you cut a big notch in it.
I went with an Edelbrock intake and carb on mine and trashed all of the emmisions junk. I only have a vacuum line to the distributor, tranny, power brake booster and PCV valve.
It is a much cleaner looking installation this way.

Thanks! So thats what it is!
I was going to change to truck headers anyway. thanks for pointing that out though!
And I know about the oilpan but what year of truck oilpan should I ask for? Or are all 460 truck oil pans the same?
You said that you went with an Edelbrock intake and carb Do you have the part#'s for both? I am going to change the intake.
Thanks steve
I use the 1407 750cfm. It came with a manual choke because I had an old Carter AFB that I took the old electric choke assembly off of to put on it.
You can buy the 1411 that already has one. You will need the Ford kickdown attatchment that bolts onto the linkage. It is #1483
I use a 2166 Performer mainfold. It runs great!!
All truck pans are not the same. You will need to find one to fit your year and a 4x4. Milidon may make one for it. I know that they are out there.

It's not too bad. The weight savings of dumping that heavy old cast iron intake will be like adding horsepower as well. Those things are really heavy when lifting them in and out of the truck. I would definately remove the stocker before installing the engine.
