I am no expert and my vehicles are older ('92 and '95) but I asked the same question a week ago and here is what I did. I waited 24 hours after shut down and pulled the fuel line and there was no excess pressure, just a lot of drainage. I did not get squirted or anything like that. Now my manual says to find the switch (whatsitcalled???) that cuts power to the fuel pump in an accident and pry up the reset button to cut pressure and then start it and run it until it dies and then you will be sure of no pressure, but don't forget to reset the switch. If you try my methhod, what I did was get the pin out and then got out to the side and reached up under to pull the connection apart--just in case. On a newer system, maybe it takes longer to leak down than mine did.

Hi,
TallPaul has a good idea. Something else to look for would be the fuel pump fuse or solinoid. Crank the truck then pull the fuse or solinoid. The engine should quickly die from fuel starvation.
I believe that the schrader valve is located on the fuel rail. Follow the fuel rail around where your injectors are and you should find the valve. It looks like a large valve stem and should have a metal cap on it.
Good luck,

I ususally just start the vehicle, then smack the inertia (cut out) switch with my fist. You will hear it click and then soon after, the engine will die. No fuel pressure. It is usually located behind the passengerside kick panel. After changing the filter, just push the reset button back in and turn the key on/off a couple of times to prime the system again, then it should start right up.
