Alright, new to the forum. I'm currently in need of replacing the clutch in my 1991 F-350 Diesel. After seeing the price of the dual mass flywheel, I'm a little shocked and hesitant to tear into this job. I've done some searches on the net and found several conversion packages to convert the flywheel back to the single mass (solid) flywheel.
I've also attempted to search this option on the forum but for some reason I'm not getting any hits. Figure I will just let you guys answer my questions about this option. Has anyone done the solid flywheel option? Where is the best source for purchase the replacement kit? Any advice or pros/cons?
Please let me know if I've posted this in the wrong section. Thanks in advance for all of your help.
I have heard of but not used a solid flywheel. If well designed it would be a good idea we have had a couple of the dual mass ones break and they are expensive. Anybody have expireience with the solid?
I have a solid flywheel on my 6.9l with the five speed tranny wich should really have the dual mass. works perfect the only thing is it is really noisey when idling but if ya give it throttle it queits rite down. Dont seam to matter wether yar in gear or not. I was a bit concerned when i first put the tranny in and it made that noise thought i might have rebuilt the tranny wrong. Ive got about 10,000 miles on the tranny now tho so i guess i did it rite. If anyone else has done a solid conversion and hears noise let me no make me feel better if its not just mine doing it.
