Hi everyone. I got a replacement tailgate trim piece for the tailgate (one with the red reflector and FORD emblem). As you can see in the pics, it just seems to be plastic shafts and it came with the shown metal clips. Maybe it will be secure, but I’m kind of doubting it. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.
I assume the plastic shaft goes in from left to right in this picture.
it uses the clips on the plastic tabs, and adhesive between the metal and plastic panels.
Okay, well, I didn't do any adhesive...let's see if it holds up. I feel like the only adhesive I saw on the one I removed was some caulk that the PO probably threw on there (it was a mess), no other traces of previous factory adhesive.
I'd remove the reflector and add adhesive to it. Especially if it's in good shape. Those reflectors are hard to find and spendy. I don't think there's much interchange between Bullnose/Bricknose/OBS trucks unless you swap the entire tailgate.
Here you can see mine is dented and missing a letter.
