I been looking into what to buy,,,,,,,am open to other suggestions....I have an 05 powerstroke with 320k miles on it
Runs ok but have been having some issues with it not starting here and there as of late......its just a spare driver basically used to haul gravel and such
I need something to get some data and numbers for the fine folks on here should something else arise.....thanks in advance
The ScanGuage is good for reading PIDs, but not for pulling codes (edit - I have been told that the ScanGauge 3 does read codes better than its predecessors).
ForScan Lite on a smart device, or the full version on a Windows laptop is better for troubleshooting.

Forscan on a Windows laptop for diagnostics, Forscan Lite on a smartphone Or Torque Pro on an Android smart phone. Each with the appropriate ODBII adapter. I've gotten by with just Torque Pro on an Android phone with a Bluetooth adapter for my 6.0. For our F150 I use Forscan for modifying things with an adapter than can handle the different CanBus comms...
what would be a recommended bluetooth adapter....was looking on amazon and there is a ton...sorry for playing 20 questions....I tried searching on here but dont have a lot of time to sit on the computer right now....thank you all once again

Well back atcha on the 20 questions. How about you tell us What you have (ios, android, windows, etc) and we don't have to guess at that and give 20 answers that might fit what you have? Deal...?
Sorry having a bad day, screwed my knee up again...
hope the knee heals bud......I have nothing at all yet...Ill move along and keep searching....thanks
Despite the gruffness he just wanted to know what sort of phone you had to recommend an interface for it.
Scangauge II is pretty antiquated but it does what it says it will do. I keep one around just for plugging into random things when I don't want to juggle phone and Bluetooth OBDII adapters. It also keeps my phone available for other random things if I just want to occasionally monitor a couple things.
For the price (unless you find a scangauge for free, or don't have any sort of smartphone/tablet) Forscan/Forscan Lite/Torque Pro are far more capable and usefull than scangauge II. They are also far cheaper if you already have a phone, laptop, or tablet.
I did locate an unused iphone and ipad from my boys.....here is the truck story
I just took the truck back from my parents as they were not using...put a flat bed on it for better use
We had bought the truck12 years ago as a commuter for my job but my parents vehicle crapped out so I loaned them to use
When I got, I changed the oil filters to Motocraft, trashed the tall oil filter cap, Rotella T synthetic oil, both fuel filters.
Was some stiction from just sitting over the last 2 years.
I read up on Archoil and ordered the kit.....worked very well for me thus far...still has a slight miss, but no smoke or anything like that any longer
Issues thus far, no boost or power....removed turbo and cleaned it all up...ran like a charm
Truck would do random lack of power and miss a cough and fart....no cure at the time I could find...next day would work like a dream..research here and youtube
Took on the highway to stretch it out and it was like a new rig just clipping along....very happy...ran 30 miles without a hiccup
Back into town, dang thing quits in my driveway as though it ran outta fuel...tossed 5 gal in er and she took off again..took a bit
Go for a run about 2 miles away to see my folks the next morning, died in the driveway...was crap stuck in the low pressure oil pump valve...cleaned er out and she fired it up...happy once again
Next evening went to go for another cruise to get a load of crush, danged if it didn't start skipping a beat on the highway, billowing blue grey smoke and then died..
Towed it home and shoved it up the driveway..no way was that bugger gonna run
Watched some diesel tech Ron vids and saw where he said to just do quick check of the harnesses and plug ins and such....did that everywhere I could see and reach all the meanwhile having the truck on the charger....for the sake of it I figured why not just try it...well she flashed up and ran...thinking a short in the harness
But this is pretty much why I am searching for something to use to scan or monitor specifics...I am not computer saavy so am always looking for advice
I knew nothing about these engines a month ago and have learned so much thanks to guys on here and youtube videos
This is the adapter recommended by Forscan. You can also used the wired version if you don't need to connect via Bluetooth.
You can probably use a cheaper adapter for monitoring PIDs and scans only. If you want to make configuration changes (program) via Forscan, you really need to use the recommended adapter.
I'm not an IOS person so someone who is familiar with them will need to chime in here - I remember some time back the IOS stuff had to use WiFi for a wireless adapter. Hopefully someone will come along and confirm if that's still true...
A number of folks have recommended the BAFX OBDII adapters - they can be found on Amazon and elsewhere...
For disg runnability I'd skip the scan gauge and get forscan(laptop) or forscan lite(mobile).
I can't help with the fruit phone stuff.
I'd also get a fuel pressure gauge on there. I have a mechanical one permanently installed under the hood, cheap and easy. I also have a couple rigs with electric ones in the cab, but those cost a bit more.
