Yesterday, I discovered I am no longer able to put my 99 e350 into park. Over the past week, I've noticed that the shifter has been extremely sloppy. Yesterday I lost the ability to put it in park. Thanks to another post on here (linked here), I discovered that there are two bolts that often come loose and can cause this issue. When I checked the bolts, I noticed one was missing (see below). I've been trying to identify the size of bolt but I've been having a difficult time finding any diagrams or anything. I can't even figure out what the part is called.
On a side note, I'm so envious of how much space there is to work on this stuff on the f-series trucks.
Just go to a self serve junkyard. You will struggle to find the exact bolt (it's likely metric). The steering column is the same for many model years, probably even F Series.
Yes, special metric 30 Torx head bolt
There is 6 of them in just about every FORD truck at the junkyard, and I find them laying on the ground or the floor of trucks
Any M6 x 1.0 bolt will work
They made me locktite them at Ford for a small recall for Fed Ex back in the day when they were driving E250s / E350s
new those bolts are only $3.95 from ford. i bought 4 as the 04 F350 snapped one in december.
i replace in pairs as i dont want to drop the column three months later to replace the other one.
