2004 F-150. Had to jump start again. Has new battery but have a drain somewhere and battery keeps going dead after sitting awhile. This time I put it in drive and it would not move. Seemed like it was trying to go both directions at the same time! Tried putting in reverse and same thing. Tried low gear and same thing. Shut it off and went to restart and NOTHING! Any ideas?
Define "sitting awhile" - an hour, a day, a week?
So at one point it started, but wouldn't go anywhere. Correct?
Can you jump it & get it running?
What is the current voltage on the battery while off?
What is the current voltage on the battery while running?
Once there is good voltage in the battery (while off), use a multi-meter on the battery & pull a fuse one by one to see when the draw drops.
Once you find the fuse it is on then you can look at components on that circuit.
After about two weeks the battery will die. I can always charge it back to life. This time it is NOT a battery problem. Like I said in post I had it running (the alternator does charge battery) and after I shut it off it would not start. It is like the trans start lockout switch is keeping it from even turning over. I will deal with the battery drain after I get it running.

That lock out just keeps you from shifting, but it reads like you are shifting?

Brake-shift interlock- column-shift transmission This vehicle is equipped with a park/brake-shift interlock feature that prevents the gearshift lever from being moved from P (Park) when the ignition is in the ON position unless the brake pedal is depressed. If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed, it is possible that a fuse has blown or the vehicle’s brakelamps are not operating properly. Refer to Fuses and relays in the Roadside Emergencies chapter. If the fuse is not blown, perform the following procedure: 1. Apply the parking brake, turn the ignition to OFF/LOCK, then remove the key. 2. Locate the round access plug on the underside of the steering column cover. 3. Remove the access plug using a flat head screwdriver, then push the override button using a flat head screwdriver, apply the brake pedal and shift the transmission into N (Neutral). 4. Reinstall the access plug cover, start the vehicle and release the parking brake.

Remove console finish panel assembly to expose the inside of the gearshift.
I apologize for my lack of proper terminology. Yes I can move the floor shifter BUT now when you try to start it, it acts like when you have the selector in anything put park or neutral.
I had a similar issue she the neutral safety switch was my issue. I had recently done repairs on my valve body and thought I had it lined up correctly but it was off just a tad. The battery issue sounds like a grounding issue which could also be the culprit for why it won't run properly. Go thru and check all your major grounding points and make sure one of the grounding points is not broken. Sometimes those fray and tear apart from the bolt over time. Check your shifter cable as well. Could be worn out.
