No. They are stud mount rocker arms and you will need to measure for the correct length pushrods.

You will need to measure the pushrod length no matter what head you end up with. AFR 165's will require a tune. You should go for it, but learn about what it will take to tune it before you go buying parts.

what would I have to tune if it’s described to be meant for stock application? How do I go about tuning? Is it all in the ECM?

[QUOTE=GoinBoarding;21576241]Sounds like a somewhat tight budget project. Personally I wouldn't worry about the weight difference one bit between steel and alloy heads. With wanting to stay at 19#/hr injectors, a freshened set of GT40 from the junkyard and some long tube headers would be my move. Alex's Parts sells a nice spring kit for a mild lift setup if you wanted to replace them.

Im looking at a pair of gt40p heads I think I want and im reading a lot about spark plug angle and headers touching plug wires. What are people doing to get away from this problem?

i think I have decided I want to go with the gt40/gt40p heads. I can get two reman gt40 off jegs for a good deal and I can find gt40p just about anywhere. With the money I’d be saving by not buying aluminum, I could get myself a mild roller lift setup and that should keep me happy till I decide to pull the engine out one day after I build a garage. I just want to figure out the spark plug wire angle problem and which of the two variations everyone prefers

My feeling with the P's is unless you find them wicked cheap/free, or your putting it in a fox body where everyone made headers for them, they are really not worth the effort. Not a bad head but dealing with the plug angle can be a pain.

Edelbrock made a 1.9" intake head long ago, they still might actually. AFR165 available still and pedestal mount. GT40X I swear were available in 1.9" and pedestal mount. I have the 1999 or 2000 FMS book if anyone wants pics

I forgot the deal with a 2.02" on a 4" bore SBF. Something about hitting the side of the cylinder with standard inline valves. Maybe someone can reenlighten me. That is why the TFS TW is good as the valve is turned to run a 2.02" intake on the 4".

Better heads and intake change the V.E. of the engine, camshaft too. Basically it can breathe all the way up the powerband.

it’s hard to find a p variant that goes on a 351 anyway. All 5.0 needs holes drilled from 7/16 to 1/2. If I go with the gt40 the holes already come half inch big. I think this is my best option

Yea, you have to measure for pushrod length, you can't assume that whatever you get for pushrods will work.

Port the heads (clean up the bowls).
