1979 F600
Hello everyone. I just purchased a 1979 F600 w/ 370 2v flatbed with wench. Bought in Illinois and I reside in NC. I am running into issues getting it home. That being said I am trying to estimate the curb weight as I may have to purchase a trailer to get this beast home myself. I have searched the forum with no luck so I’m hoping for a little help with this post.
also I’ve noticed these listed with a 5speed and 2 speed rear. Mine is a 4 speed with 2 speed rear. Is the 2 speed rear considered the 5th gear?
apologies for the long post and left field question but if I’m gonna learn this thing I have to ask them all and there’s probably a lot to come😂
I moved you here as this is the place for your truck.
Your flatbed has a winch? Not a hoist to make it a dump bed?
Based in other "curb weight " discussions here, 9000 lbs might be a close estimate.
The two speed rear axle is sometimes used as "5th gear" but is not 5th gear. The transmission is 4 or 5 or whatever. The axle is high/low and while it can be shifted in conjunction with a transmission shift ("split shifting"), it is separate and operates from it's own electrical control switch.
I'll post more on that later.
If the warranty plate is still on the door we can decode that to determine the original transmission and axle.
