Check engine light came on yesterday, engine runs fine.
170k on my 2011 F-250 FX4 SD.
Hooked it up and got this code: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2
I then ran a test, and it all passed.
What do you guys do?
I did notice I haven't changed the air filter, it's do.
Does that catalytic cleaner you pour into a tank of gas work?
The cat on that side is starting to burn out..... you're just on the starting stages.
Is the milage about right for these to start to degrade?
Is replacing them a pretty easy thing to do?
I see they have them at Rock Auto that says they have exact fit without cutting, welding, etc.

Thanks for the reply!
In theory, they should never wear out..... ok stop laughing! But yeah, it really depends on soo many factors including the type of driving, etc., at 170k, that doesn't surprise me. As far as ease of replacing them, it's all vehicle dependent..... on my wife's 1997 Cougar, the front cats....it's absolute "H" without a service lift... just paid a shop to replace the front passenger side one. On a truck, my swag is it shouldn't be too bad since access is typically good, no cramped spaces and nothing that a big hammer can't help with! I would recommend going with "Maggie" or "CarSound" brand cats- as they are the betters (CarSound makes them for maggie) and will last.
When I bought my 2014, the used car dealer fixed a leaky exhaust flange by replacing the factory cat with only 25k on it. They used an aftermarket unit. About a month later, it triggered the codes. Aftermarket cats do not work very well, including some name brand performance units.
Right, wrong or indifferent - I put spacers in my down stream O2 sensors. Well, actually I replaced the sensors first because the dealer buggered them up pretty bad. Then spacers. No more codes, and runs great. Now I need a muffler.

So far I put in some Red Line fuel treatment just to see if it would work.
My light went off, and the truck is working great?????
I will wait and see after I run this tank of fuel what I can read on my scanner.
