Front Fender Question

This question is about the fender construction. On the rear back side of the fender, where it runs down along the door, the sheet metal is all bent over. Is this how the door skin attaches to the fender stiffener?

Mine look more like they were bent back from hitting the door or something? Should that edge be facing 90 degrees from the skin, or should it be bent over like this?

This ones untouched.

This one I started to straighten.

Maybe this helps, is for Dents. There at the bottom inside, after primed and painted, I brushed in a coating of Iron Armor bed liner from HF as that was where mine rusted.

Thanks tbear

It just seams odd that it’s bent over like that. I guess it’s pinched on there to get supported.

I’ll probably have to get at least one lower rear patch panel. I guess I’ll see then how I’ll have to pinch it over.

I guess it’s no accident that it’s folded under the support.

Both sides are folded over like they have been bent accidentally. Only the one has that one spot where the bend is under the support.

I started to straighten the one side out, then I realized I only put it on the table to take pictures of where the angle brackets and U-nuts were located. I have a new one for that side that I bought years ago. When I got it down from the rafters, I saw that it’s also bent over, but like it was meant to be that way. The fold is also tack welded to the support in a few spots. The passenger side door was rubbing on the fender. That’s why I thought this was damaged and not intentional.

Judging by the date of the OP, it only took about ten weeks to do my fenders! I still need to color sand, cut and buff. I may save that for the winter. I have to get moving on the cab so I can have that done before it gets cold. If not, I’m dead in the water this winter for getting it back together.
