E4OD diodes in solenoid pack vs EEC-IV SD

E4OD diodes in solenoid pack vs EEC-IV SD
The 1994 and older E4OD solenoid packs have diodes built in them, I have seen this in mine.
I've heard that the 1995 and newer packs, have moved the diodes to the computer.
I've now inspected a 1997 EEC-IV SD E4OD circuit board and its components to a 1994 EEC-IV, and they are identical. There are no extra diodes in the EEC.
Can someone explain, there are no extra diodes in the newer EEC?
