Hey guys. Looking for recommendations for tire size for my stock 2000 250 7.3 2WD. General purpose driving - highway mostly. I'll rarely tow a 37-foot travel trailer. Any ideas are appreciated.
I like the tall skinny look myself so a 235/85r16 or 255/85r16 is what I look for. Not for everyone though and those 255/85's are only available in 2 flavors last I looked and are pricey.
I ran 285/75/16 E load range on stock wheels for many years on both trucks...00 Excursion 2wd and 00 F350 4wd. Last year I moved both trucks over to 18" wheels...oem 1 year (04) only...wheels given there's more tire choices.
I was a huge fan of the 255/85R16s until the only offerings were mud tires (and the price went stupid).
I recommend sticking with either of the factory options for a SRW pickup of the era: 235/85R16 or 265/75R16. They're the same diameter but the 265 is a touch over an inch wider.
Been through 4 different manufacturers of this size.
I always wanted the Toyo M55 but kept going with something else cause the price just always seemed crazy high to me.
After not being quiet satisfied with the look of those other 255/85/16 tires and how the tread wore, I finally bit the bullet and went with the M55. I wish I had gone with the M55 from the get go. They are way better wearing as far as the tread goes than the others and I feel they look much better. I'm not into the tread going up the sidewall look. The M55 has a much cleaner straight, tall, skinnier look that I am looking for.
Be warned though, they ride like a solid forklift tire! I don't mind though, they are in a 30 year old truck built to work!

I have a 99 2wd. Installed 2" leveling kit up front, run 285/75r16's now on OEM aluminum wheels, before I had run a similar diameter tire on 18" take-offs from a 2015 F250 but had to run 2" spacers. I pull a 38' 10k trailer just fine with stock 3.73 gears and just a hydra tuner running a 70hp tow tune.
